Só Danço Samba, also known as Jazz 'n' Samba, is a bossa nova song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim with Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes, later given English lyrics by Norman Gimbel. The tune is sometimes called Jazz Samba or I Only Dance Samba in English. It grew out of a moment when musicians hoped to create a bossa nova dance, a idea Jobim reportedly doubted; João Gilberto joked that it sounded like boogie-woogie when he first heard it. The first public performance was in August 1962 by João Gilberto and Os Cariocas at the Au Bon Gourmet in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, a gathering Ruy Castro calls the bossa nova show to end all bossa nova shows. Elza Laranjeira released the first recording in October 1962 as a single. Since then the song has appeared on many albums and in notable recordings, including Stan Getz & Luiz Bonfá Jazz Samba Encore! (1963) as "Só Danço Samba (I Only Dance Samba)" and on Jobim’s The Composer of Desafinado, Plays (1963) and Antonio Brasileiro (1994).
