So Real is a song by Jeff Buckley from his 1994 album Grace. It was released as the third single in 1995 (a promotional CD single was released in Australia) and was recorded in fall 1993 at Bearsville Recording Studio in Woodstock, New York. The track blends alternative rock, psychedelic rock and post-rock and runs 4:43. It was written by Jeff Buckley and Michael Tighe, produced by Buckley and Andy Wallace for Columbia Records. Tighe joined Buckley late in Grace and provided the main riff for So Real, and Buckley later replaced the original album track Forget Her with So Real; Forget Her appears on the 10th anniversary edition of Grace. Buckley has said the vocal on So Real was captured in a single take at about three o’clock in the morning. A music video directed by Sophie Muller was filmed in New York City and features Buckley riding a bicycle to a diner, a surreal chase by gorillas, and intercut band performance; the video was described as weird and dreamy and was not heavily aired, though it was screened at Buckley’s funeral in 1997.
