Spain is an instrumental jazz fusion composition by Chick Corea, composed in 1971 and first released on the 1972 album Light as a Feather. The original recording features Corea on Rhodes electric piano, Airto Moreira on drums, Flora Purim on vocals and percussion, Stanley Clarke on bass, and Joe Farrell on flute. The opening adagio is drawn from Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, after which the piece moves into a fast samba-like groove with a recurring main theme for improvisation. Over the years it has been widely covered, including a flamenco-inspired version by Paco de Lucía, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin in the 1980s, and a lyric version by Al Jarreau titled Spain (I Can Recall) on the 1980 album This Time. Corea's Light as a Feather version earned Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Arrangement and Best Instrumental Jazz Performance by a Group; in 2001 he won Best Instrumental Arrangement for Spain for Sextet and Orchestra. The piece is regarded as Corea's most recognized work and a jazz standard, and he has performed it in duets such as with Hiromi Uehara.
