Stayin' Alive is a disco tune by the Bee Gees, written by Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It was released as a single on December 15, 1977 and appears on the film’s soundtrack album. The track, recorded in 1977 at Château d'Hérouville in France and Criteria Studios in Miami, features Barry Gibb's falsetto and a distinctive drum loop that came from reworking parts of Night Fever. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in February 1978 and helped cement the Bee Gees as disco icons, partly due to its prominent place in the movie's opening credits. Lyrically it touches on survival in the New York streets, and the song has been called a signature Bee Gees track; it won the 1979 Grammy for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices. The tempo is about 103 beats per minute, a pace used in CPR training for chest compressions, and there is a longer 12-inch Special Disco Version made for clubs.
