Summer of '69 is a 1985 single by Bryan Adams from the 1984 album Reckless. It is an up-tempo heartland rock / pop rock song co-written by Adams and Jim Vallance and produced by Adams and Bob Clearmountain. The lyrics describe a young musician's dilemma between settling down and chasing a rock star dream. The title's meaning is debated: Adams says it refers to a sexual innuendo, while Vallance points to the year 1969. It was released June 17, 1985 and became a major international hit, reaching No 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and helping Reckless top the album charts; it also performed well in Canada and the Netherlands (No 4 in 1990). The music video was directed by Steve Barron. Today it remains a popular summer anthem and has been performed in high-profile live moments, including with Taylor Swift.
