Tadd's Delight is a bebop jazz tune written by Tadd Dameron and first recorded with Tadd Dameron And His Orchestra. The original UK 7 inch vinyl EP released by Capitol Records (EAP-1-20388) appeared in 1948-49 and includes A side Sid's Delight and Casbah with Rae Pearl on vocals, and B side Focus and John's Delight; the A side was recorded January 21, 1948 and the B side April 21, 1949 in New York. The sessions feature an all star lineup with Dameron on piano, Miles Davis and Fats Navarro on trumpet, Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane on sax, Kai Winding on trombone, Ed Gregory on alto sax, Kenny Clarke on drums, and Rae Pearl providing vocals on the A side.
The tune later reached wider fame when Miles Davis recorded a version called Tadd's Delight on the 1957 album Round About Midnight, released March 4, 1957. That version was recorded in 1956 at Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York and features Miles Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor sax, Red Garland on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums, with Dameron credited as the composer.
