Thanks for the Memory is a 1938 traditional pop song written by Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin. It was introduced in the Bob Hope and Shirley Ross film The Big Broadcast of 1938 and appears on the film’s soundtrack The Big Broadcast of 1938. The on screen duo was Bob Hope and Shirley Ross, with earlier 1937 recordings by Shep Fields and His Rippling Rhythm Orchestra featuring John Serry Sr. on accordion, and a popular solo version by Dorothy Lamour. In the movie, Hope and Ross play a divorced couple who reunite aboard a ship and sing the tune as they decide to get back together. The fifth verse referenced a Niagara weekend, but the lyric was changed by producers, a censorship move that reportedly angered Robin. The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Hope’s signature tune, later covered by many artists. It ranked No 63 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs in 2004. It is published by Paramount Music and released on Decca.
