The Best Is Yet to Come is a jazz standard composed by Cy Coleman with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, published in 1959. It was introduced by Tony Bennett and later popularized by Frank Sinatra, who recorded it in 1964 for the album It Might as Well Be Swing with Count Basie and under the direction of Quincy Jones; the single was released in August 1964 after being recorded on June 9, 1964. The song blends jazz, traditional pop and swing. Before Sinatra’s version, Coleman performed it on Hugh Hefner’s Playboy's Penthouse. The tune has been covered by many artists including Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Bublé, Sarah Vaughan and Tony Bennett, and has appeared in pop culture such as Star Trek Deep Space Nine and as a wake-up call for Apollo 10. An interesting note: Sinatra reportedly sang it in public for the last time in 1995 and the words were once on his tombstone until 2020.
