The Breeze and I is the English version of Ernesto Lecuona’s instrumental Andalucía from his Suite Andalucía, written in 1928. Spanish lyrics were added by Emilio de Torre and English lyrics by Al Stillman in 1940. The best known recording is Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra with Bob Eberly on vocals, released by Decca in 1940 as catalog number 3150. The track, 3 minutes 02 seconds long, first charted on July 20, 1940, and stayed on the Billboard charts for nine weeks, peaking at number 2. It is a big band era Latin-flavored standard and has been widely recorded by artists such as Xavier Cugat, Vic Damone and Caterina Valente, with Bing Crosby including it on his 1965 album Bing Crosby's Treasury - The Songs I Love and on Bingo Viejo (1977). The tune also appeared in the 1946 film Cuban Pete. The original release was as a single, not tied to a specific album at the time, though it has appeared on many later compilations.
