The Eel's Nephew is a jazz instrumental written by Bud Freeman and performed by Bud Freeman with two guitars, George Barnes and Carl Kress. It was first released in 1963 on the album Something Tender, a United Artists Jazz record credited to Bud Freeman and Two Guitars. The original session features Freeman on tenor sax with Barnes and Kress on guitars, in a swinging Dixieland–leaning jazz setting. In 2020 the trio re-recorded the tune on the album Two Guitars And A Horn, released May 18, 2020, by Epistrophy, with the track running about 2.5 minutes. The piece is noted for its distinctive harmonic structure that diverts from standard blues changes and highlights strong guitar work alongside Freeman’s tenor.
