The Night We Called It a Day is a popular song and jazz standard written by Matt Dennis (music) and Tom Adair (lyrics), published in 1941. The original recording was by Johnny Long and His Orchestra with vocal by Bob Houston, around January 1942. It gained wider fame when Frank Sinatra made his first solo recording of the tune in 1942 on Bluebird 11463, with Axel Stordahl conducting; Sinatra would later re-record it for Columbia in 1947 and Capitol in 1957, and it appears on his 1957 album Where Are You? The song has been covered by many artists over the years and is regarded as a classic jazz and pop standard. Notable later moments include Bob Dylan performing the tune on May 19, 2015 on The Late Show with David Letterman.
