Tiny Capers is a bebop jazz tune composed by Clifford Brown and arranged for jazz ensemble by Carl Strommen as a swing chart. The piece creates a small group within a big band, with the A section heard by trumpet 2, tenor 1, trombone 1, and bari sax, and it includes written-out 8-bar solos for each player, a nice sax soli, and easy brass ranges. It features a Baroque-style interlude and an open solo section for developing improvisers, followed by a rousing shout chorus. The original recording and first release were by The Clifford Brown Ensemble, with the recording dated August 13, 1954 and the release in April 1955. It sits in the bebop and swing traditions and is part of the Young Jazz Ensemble series, graded 2 (Medium Easy). Available as a conductor score & parts (Item 00-38672) and in MakeMusic Cloud as a digital edition.
