Tiro ao Álvaro is a samba song composed in 1960 by Brazilian songwriter Adoniran Barbosa ( João Rubinato) with Osvaldo Moles, written in the Paulista samba style with humorous lyrics in popular Portuguese. The title plays on tiro ao alvo (shooting at a target), but Barbosa changed the target to Álvaro to avoid censorship during the military dictatorship. The song was censored for using words in a way that critics said was in bad taste, due to the Paulista accent. Publication finally occurred in 1980 with a version by Elis Regina, after an unsuccessful 1973 attempt. Notable later versions include Demônios da Garoa (1990), Diogo Nogueira (2007), Zélia Duncan (2010), and Péricles (2016) for the telenovela Haja Coração.
