Virgo is a Wayne Shorter composition from his 1964 Blue Note album Night Dreamer. The tune is performed by Shorter's quintet with Lee Morgan on trumpet, McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. It was recorded on April 29, 1964 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey and released in November 1964 as part of the Night Dreamer set, a modal jazz and post-bop record. Shorter has said Virgo is intended to be optimistic, reflecting his star sign, in contrast to the album’s other pieces like Armageddon.
