Waiting on the World to Change is a 2006 song by American singer-songwriter John Mayer, released as the lead single from his third studio album Continuum. The track blends jazz rock, pop rock, soft rock, blue-eyed soul and blues rock and tells of a generation's sense of powerlessness to fix world problems, while offering hope that change will come when they rise to power. Written by Mayer and produced with Steve Jordan, it peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the US Adult Contemporary and US Adult Alternative charts; it also won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 49th Grammy Awards and was the most played song on US mainstream AC radio in 2007. The music video, directed by Philip Andelman, shows Mayer along the East River with graffiti artists painting messages on NYC billboards. A limited edition EP included an acoustic version with Ben Harper, and the track has sold over two million digital downloads in the US, earning multi-platinum status.
