Walkin’ Up is a jazz instrumental written by Bill Evans and performed in his piano trio style. It was first recorded by the Bill Evans Trio on May 29, 1962, and first released in 1963 in a Joe Pass recording with Clare Fischer. The tune has since become a staple of Evans’ repertoire with many interpretations, including a notable live version at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1968. A later discovery of Evans’ take appears on Some Other Time: The Lost Session From The Black Forest, released by Resonance Records in 2016. The piece has been explored by a range of artists beyond Evans, even appearing in a 1986 Kronos Quartet instrumental version, illustrating its enduring appeal in jazz and beyond.
