Wave is a bossa nova and jazz standard composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim. It originated as an instrumental on Jobim's 1967 album Wave, with English lyrics he wrote later that year. The first release of the tune was by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 on Equinox (1967), sung by Lani Hall, and the English lyrics later appeared in Frank Sinatra's Sinatra & Company (1970) and Johnny Mathis's Close to You (1970). The song has been recorded nearly 500 times by jazz artists and was named the 73rd greatest Brazilian song by Rolling Stone Brasil. Notable versions include Jobim's own, Elis Regina with Toots Thielemans, Oscar Peterson, Paul Desmond, Joao Gilberto, and Sarah Vaughan. It runs about 2 minutes and 58 seconds and remains a staple of the bossa nova repertoire.
