Webb City is a jazz bebop instrumental written by Bud Powell. It was first recorded and released in 1946 by The Be Bop Boys, with the recording dated September 6, 1946. The tune quickly became a Powell standard and has been covered by many artists over the decades. Early versions include Johnny Dankworth Seven in 1951 and the Art Pepper Quartet in 1957. Notable later performances include Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers live in 1982 and the Phil Woods Quartet in 1985. The piece has been interpreted by a wide range of players such as Sonny Stitt, Barry Harris, Matt Wilson and many others, with recordings continuing into the 2020s. It is published by Embassy Music Corporation BMI and is sometimes featured in Bud Powell medleys like Bouncing with Bud - Dusk in Sandy - Webb City by Rolf Kühn & The NDR Bigband (2005).
