Wives and Lovers is a 1963 traditional pop song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The best known recording is by Jack Jones, released in 1963 on Kapp Records and later included on the album Wives and Lovers; the single, with the B-side Toys in the Attic, runs about 2 minutes 29 seconds and earned Jones the 1964 Grammy for Best Vocal Performance, Male. The song offers marital advice to wives to stay attractive and attentive to their husbands to prevent infidelity, opening with Hey little girl and declaring that wives should always be lovers too. It was written as a promotional tie-in for the 1963 film Wives and Lovers and did not appear in the film. The tune has been covered by many artists, including Frank Sinatra with Count Basie on It Might as Well Be Swing, where the Basie band played it in 4/4 time despite the original being in 3/4.
