Work is a Thelonious Monk composition that appears on the 1956 Prestige compilation Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins. The tune was recorded on September 22, 1954 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ, during a session with Monk on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Art Blakey on drums. It is Monk's only recording of the piece, and Sonny Rollins does not play on this track. The album collects material from three sessions recorded between 1953 and 1954 and features five tracks, including The Way You Look Tonight and I Want to Be Happy. The track is a jazz piece and has also appeared under alternate titles in reissues such as Work! and The Genius Of Thelonious Monk.
