You Are So Beautiful is a soul-pop ballad written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher. It first appeared in 1974 on Preston's ninth studio album The Kids & Me. Later that year Joe Cocker released a slower, piano-led version on his album I Can Stand a Little Rain, produced by Jim Price and issued as a single. Cocker's rendition reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1975, making it his highest-charting solo US hit. The song is commonly performed in the key of A-flat major at about 70 BPM, with a tender, vocal-led arrangement that contrasts Preston's original. Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys is said to have helped complete the song at a party, and Wilson sometimes performed it live with the Beach Boys. The track has been widely covered and used in films, TV shows, and ads, and in 2016 the Joe Cocker recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
