You Know I Care is a jazz ballad written by Duke Pearson. It was first released in 1966 by The Duke Pearson Nonet, appearing on their self-titled release. The tune also exists as an arrangement recorded on Pearson's 1965 Honeybuns album, noted for its six-horn ensemble and a lyrical flute-led melody. The best known rendition features Joe Henderson on the tenor saxophone on the 1966 album Inner Urge, where his solo adds drama to the hushed ballad. The composition follows a 26-bar form described as A1 - B - A2, with a slow elastic tempo often around 60 BPM, and it has become one of the iconic jazz ballads of the 1960s Blue Note era. Over the years it has been covered by Art Farmer, Dusko Goykovich and many others, cementing its status as a standard of the period.
