Das Stück

That's What Friends Are For is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager. It was first recorded by Rod Stewart in 1982 for the Night Shift soundtrack. The tune is best known for the 1985 charity version credited to Dionne Warwick & Friends - with Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder - released on the album Friends to benefit AIDS research. The Dionne Warwick & Friends version became a major US hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and finishing 1986 as Billboard's year-end number one single - it won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Song of the Year, and raised over 3 million dollars. Warwick's collaboration marked her reconciliation with Bacharach after their 1970s split. The Rod Stewart recording appears on the expanded edition of the 2008 remaster of Body Wishes. The Dionne Warwick version is in the key of E-flat major and blends pop, soul and R&B influences.
