"Isn't It Romantic?" is a popular song with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart, published in 1932 by Famous Music. It belongs to the Great American Songbook and has a 32-bar chorus in A-B-A-C form. Alec Wilder, in American Popular Song: The Great Innovators 1900-1950, called it "a perfect song." It was introduced in the Paramount film Love Me Tonight (1932) by Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald. Chevalier sings it first, as a tailor, and other characters take it up in turn: a customer, a cabby, a composer, a troop of soldiers and a band of gypsies. MacDonald, playing a princess, sings it last. The lyrics in the film differ from the published version. In 2004 the film version placed 73rd in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs.
Recordings from 1932 include Harold Stern & His Orchestra, with a vocal by Bill Smith, and Jeanette MacDonald, who recorded it for Victor that July. Later versions include Chet Baker (1954), Ella Fitzgerald (1957), Carmen McRae (1958), the Bill Evans Trio (1963), Tony Bennett (1973) and Diana Krall (2017).
