Bye Bye Blues is an American popular and jazz standard written by Fred Hamm, Dave Bennett, Bert Lown and Chauncey Gray. It was published in 1925 by Irving Berlin Inc. in a version credited to bandleader Fred Hamm and pianist-arranger Dave Bennett. Fred Hamm and His Orchestra recorded it that year (Victor 19662), but this version did not become widely popular. In 1930 a new version with a new verse and chorus lyric was published, adding Bert Lown and Chauncey Gray to the credits. Bert Lown and His Hotel Biltmore Orchestra recorded it that year (Columbia 2258-D), and it caught on quickly, with recordings by Louis Armstrong and Frankie Trumbauer. The Vikings sang it on the NBC radio series The Vikings in 1930.
Later recordings include those by Cab Calloway (1941), Benny Goodman (1948), Dinah Shore, Julie London (1957), Harry James, Kay Kyser and Brenda Lee (1966). Les Paul and Mary Ford recorded it for Capitol in 1952, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Best Seller chart. The song is a vocal standard with English-language lyrics. It is the title track of the 1989 film Bye Bye Blues and appears in the 1957 film The Joker is Wild.
