Butch and Butch is an instrumental jazz composition, with no lyrics, credited to the American saxophonist and arranger Oliver Nelson (1932-1975) as its composer. Nelson recorded it himself on 23 February 1961, and the performance was first released on 1 September 1961 as track B2 of the album The Blues and the Abstract Truth on the Impulse! label. The album is classified under hard bop and modal jazz.
The piece has been taken up by other artists in the decades since. Later versions include those by the Jack Wilkins Trio (1989), the Keith Jarrett Trio (1993), Roy Haynes (2004) and the Alessandro Lanzoni Trio (2007). Their dates run from 1989 to 2007, so the tune has been revisited by players well after its original release.
