"I'll Get By (As Long as I Have You)" is a popular song with music by Fred E. Ahlert and lyrics by Roy Turk, published in 1928. The first recording was made on 30 November 1928 by Ted Wallace & His Orchestra, with The Radio Imps providing the vocal chorus, and it was released on a single in 1929. Later in 1928, Ben Bernie and His Orchestra and The Ipana Troubadours with Bing Crosby also recorded it. Early 1929 US hits came from Nick Lucas, Aileen Stanley and, most successfully, Ruth Etting. Billie Holiday recorded it with Teddy Wilson and His Orchestra in 1937.
Its biggest success came in 1944, when Harry James and His Orchestra, featuring Dick Haymes, took it to number one on the Billboard chart in June. A recording by the Ink Spots with Bill Kenny also reached the Billboard Top Ten that year. Later versions include those by The Platters (1956), Connie Francis (1958), Shirley Bassey (1961), Peggy Lee (1963), Sun Ra (1973) and Michael Feinstein (1988). The song appears in films including A Guy Named Joe (1943), Follow the Boys (1944), I'll Get By (1950), A Star Is Born (1954) and Woody Allen's Zelig (1983). It has English lyrics and is a jazz and pop standard.
