"Jackie-ing" is an instrumental jazz composition by Thelonious Monk, with no lyrics. The Thelonious Monk Quintet first recorded it in New York on June 1 and 2, 1959, for the Riverside label, and it appeared that year on the album 5 by Monk by 5. The album takes its title from the quintet playing five of Monk's compositions, of which "Jackie-ing" was new at the time. Monk hummed the tune to the other players to help them learn it. The band included Thad Jones, Charlie Rouse, Sam Jones and Art Taylor, and the recording is classified in the hard bop style.
Among the early versions is one by the J.J. Johnson Quartet, from 1962. Later recordings have been made by Steve Lacy, Kenny Barron, Bill Frisell, Larry Goldings and others.
