“My Ideal” is a popular song with music by Richard A. Whiting and Newell Chase and words by Leo Robin. It belongs to Whiting’s catalogue of hits alongside “Ain’t We Got Fun?,” “Beyond the Blue Horizon” and “Too Marvelous for Words.” Whiting wrote for both films and Broadway, and Robin was among his songwriting collaborators. The two also shared credit on “Beyond the Blue Horizon,” whose music Whiting composed with W. Franke Harling.
Frank Sinatra recorded “My Ideal,” as did Tony Bennett, who included it on his album Here’s to the Ladies. Both singers also recorded other Whiting compositions: Sinatra included “Too Marvelous for Words” on Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! and “She’s Funny That Way” on Nice ’n’ Easy, while Bennett also recorded “True Blue Lou” and “She’s Funny That Way.”
