Blue and Sentimental is a 1938 song with music by Count Basie and lyrics by Jerry Livingston and Mack David. Count Basie and His Orchestra recorded it on 6 June 1938 for Decca, and the 78 rpm single, backed by "Doggin' Around", was released in August of that year. A swinging jazz ballad, it became a standard of the big band and swing repertoire.
Later versions include recordings by the King Cole Trio in November 1947, and by Count Basie with a vocal by Bob Bailey for RCA Victor later that year, which briefly charted in 1948. The Mills Brothers recorded it in 1952, Michel Legrand with Ben Webster in 1958, and Ike Quebec in 1962. Tony Bennett and Kay Starr recorded it in 2001, and Larkin Poe released a version in 2023. Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Buddy Rich, Gloria Lynne, Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass are among the other artists who have recorded it.
