Blue Daniel is a jazz tune written by the American trombonist Frank Rosolino (1926-1978), who is credited as its sole composer. Shelly Manne & His Men recorded it at the Black Hawk club in San Francisco on 22 to 24 September 1959, and the performance was released in 1960 on the Contemporary label, on the album At the Black Hawk, Vol. 1, where it appears as track B2. The tune became a jazz standard. Among its notable versions is a 1960 recording by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet.
Rosolino was also a scat singer and played with Supersax in the 1970s. In 1979 Ben Sidran wrote lyrics for the tune, and vocal versions use those words.
