"Call Me" is a pop song for which Tony Hatch is credited as both composer and lyricist. Petula Clark recorded it in London in May 1965, with Hatch as producer. It was first issued as the title track of a UK Pye EP (NEP 24237) and later appeared on the album I Know a Place, also known as The New Petula Clark Album. In France the EP was released on Vogue. The song is regarded as an easy listening standard and is classed in the Pop genre, Pop Rock style.
Chris Montez recorded a version in September 1965 for A&M, produced with Herb Alpert, which was released in November 1965. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart and No. 22 on the Hot 100 in March 1966. Clark's original reached No. 7 on the Argentine Billboard chart in 1966. Later versions include those by Frank Sinatra on Strangers in the Night (1966), The Foundations (1967), Billy Crystal's voice-message rendition in When Harry Met Sally (1989), The Mike Flowers Pops on the Austin Powers soundtrack (1997) and Eliane Elias on Dreamer (2004).
