Doxy is a jazz standard written solely by Sonny Rollins. It was published in 1954 and has been performed and recorded many times since. The tune is in B-flat major, and its chord changes are taken from Bob Carleton's 16-bar song "Ja-Da".
The original recording was made on 29 June 1954 by Miles Davis with Rollins on tenor saxophone, Horace Silver on piano, Percy Heath on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums. It was issued on the 10-inch Prestige LP "Miles Davis with Sonny Rollins" and was also included on Davis's 1957 album "Bags' Groove". Rollins later named his record label Doxy Records.
Sources differ on where the tune was written. Some accounts place it during a stopover in England on a European tour, although Rollins did not tour Europe until 1959.
