"I Mean You" is a jazz standard whose music is credited to Thelonious Monk and Coleman Hawkins, both named as composers. It is a bop-era jazz composition, and no lyrics are recorded for it, so it exists as an instrumental piece. The original recording is by Coleman Hawkins and his Orchestra, made in October 1946 and issued on a Selmer 78 single coupled with "You Go to My Head". The Monk Quartet recorded it in 1949, and Monk's own recorded version dates from 1951.
Later versions include Monk's recording with Gerry Mulligan from 1957, and recordings by McCoy Tyner, Harry Connick Jr., Randy Weston and Ernie Wilkins, among others. The tune has been taken up by many jazz players in the decades since.
