Wayne's Thang is an instrumental jazz composition written by Kenny Garrett, who is its sole credited writer. The piece has no lyrics, so it exists entirely through its melody and the way it is performed. Garrett recorded the original version himself, and it was released in 1995 on the album Triology by Warner Bros. Records.
The original recording is in a post-bop style, a term for jazz that followed the hard bop of the 1950s and 1960s while extending its harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary. A later version by the Steffen Brix Trio, recorded in 2019, offers another reading of the theme.
