Capim is a Portuguese-language song written and composed by Djavan, who is credited as both composer and lyricist. He recorded it himself in 1982 for his album Luz, released that August by CBS Records (Sony Music in Portugal). Luz was Djavan's fifth studio album, following his debut A Voz, o Violão, a Música de Djavan from 1976. The album was praised on release by the critic of the São Paulo newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, and it was later certified triple platinum in Brazil. Capim is listed among the songs from Luz that became very well known.
The song has since been recorded by other artists, including The Manhattan Transfer (1987), Os Cariocas (1992), Zizi Possi (2001), Beth Carvalho with Seu Jorge in a medley (2002) and Alcione featuring Djavan (2011).
