Dream Dancing is a song by Cole Porter, who wrote both the music and the lyrics. It was written for the 1941 film You'll Never Get Rich, where it was introduced as an instrumental piece. Fred Astaire, who starred in the film, recorded it with Harry Sosnik and His Orchestra and the Delta Rhythm Boys for Decca, released on 10 September 1941 with "The Wedding Cake Walk" on the reverse. Other sources give 5 August 1941 as the date of an earlier recording by Tony Pastor and His Orchestra, with a vocal refrain by John McAfee, issued as a single under the title "So Near And Yet So Far". Later recordings include Ella Fitzgerald's 1978 album Dream Dancing, a 1983 version by Mel Tormé and George Shearing, and instrumental versions by Dave McKenna, Spike Robinson, Beegie Adair and Jan Lundgren.
