"Little White Lies" is a popular song from 1930, with music and lyrics by Walter Donaldson, who wrote both. It is generally described as a jazz song. The original recording was made by Irving Kaufman, released as a single on 6 July 1930. Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians recorded it on 25 July 1930 for Victor, with a vocal by Clare Hanlon and The Waring Girls. Other 1930 recordings came from Marion Harris, Johnny Marvin, Annette Hanshaw and Jesse Crawford.
Harry James recorded the song in 1938, and Ella Fitzgerald sang it with Chick Webb in 1939. Dick Haymes's 1947 Decca version was a hit, reaching No. 3 on Billboard and selling over a million copies. Later recordings by Dinah Shore, Betty Johnson (1957) and Eartha Kitt (1963) followed. Paul McCartney has named the song a favourite from his youth in Liverpool. The song has English lyrics and is a jazz standard, recorded widely in swing and vocal styles.
