"Where Did Our Love Go" is a 1964 song written by Holland-Dozier-Holland, Motown's main production team: Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier wrote the music, and Eddie Holland wrote the lyrics. The Supremes recorded it at Hitsville U.S.A. in Detroit, with Diana Ross on lead vocal and Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson on backing vocals, backed by the Funk Brothers, including James Jamerson on bass and Mike Terry's baritone saxophone solo. Released as a single on June 17, 1964, with "He Means the World to Me" on the B-side, it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in August 1964, the first of a run of consecutive No. 1 singles for the group. It also topped the Cash Box and R&B charts and reached No. 3 in the UK. Billboard praised its "true rockin'-blues groove". The song was the title track and focal point of the 1965 album. Later versions include those by Donnie Elbert, the J. Geils Band, Manhattan Transfer and Sinitta, and a Soft Cell medley with "Tainted Love". It was added to the National Recording Registry in 2016 and appears in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs. In August 1965 a copy was sent to the astronauts of Gemini 5.
