"They Say It's Wonderful" is a popular song written by Irving Berlin, who wrote both the music and the lyrics, for the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun, which opened in 1946. Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton introduced it in the show, and Merman's version appears on the Original Broadway Cast recording issued by Decca that year. Brunswick released it as a single in May 1946, backed with "Anything You Can Do", with a running time of 3:06. Recordings by Andy Russell, Perry Como, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra charted in 1946. A 1950 film version of the musical featured the song, performed by Howard Keel and Betty Hutton. Later recordings by the Modern Jazz Quartet and Dave Brubeck, Sarah Vaughan, Johnny Mathis, Doris Day, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, Tony Bennett, Stacey Kent and Eliane Elias followed, and the song has been widely covered. Darius de Haas performed it in an episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
