"Ela é Carioca" is a bossa nova composed in 1963 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, with Portuguese lyrics by Vinícius de Moraes and English lyrics by Ray Gilbert. The English title is "She's a Carioca", and the sheet music is titled "Ella Carioca". The word "Carioca" refers to someone from Rio de Janeiro. The original recording was made in 1963 by Os Cariocas for the album "Mais Bossa com Os Cariocas". Jobim recorded the song himself for his 1965 album "The Wonderful World of Antonio Carlos Jobim". AllMusic describes it as a cheerful sequel to "The Girl From Ipanema", another song by Jobim and Moraes. The song gave its name to the 2005 documentary "Tom Jobim: She's a Carioca".
Notable later versions include those by Marcos Valle, Rosinha de Valença, Wilson Simonal, Walter Wanderley, Eliane Elias, Quarteto Jobim-Morelenbaum and Caetano Veloso. Ella Fitzgerald recorded it in 1981 as "He's a Carioca".
