"Everything Happens to Me" is a pop standard from the Great American Songbook, with music by Matt Dennis and English lyrics by Tom Adair. It was published in 1940 or 1941. It was conceived as a slow fox swing piece and later developed into a jazz standard. The original recording is generally listed as the 1941 single by Kay Kyser and His Orchestra, with a vocal chorus by Harry Babbitt, recorded in February 1941. The English Wikipedia article credits the first recording to the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra, with no trombone solo by Dorsey. Sinatra re-recorded the song in 1957 with the Hollywood String Quartet for the album Close to You. Later versions that matter include recordings by Charlie Parker (1949), Stan Getz (1951), Gerry Mulligan (1956), Chet Baker (1958), Ella Fitzgerald (1960) and Pat Metheny (2024), as well as versions by Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, Thelonious Monk and Julie London.
