The Love Nest is a song with music by Louis Hirsch and lyrics by Otto Harbach, written for the 1920 musical comedy Mary, which had a book and lyrics by Frank Mandel and Otto Harbach and music by Hirsch. The show opened at the Garrick Theatre in Philadelphia on April 5, 1920, and ran on Broadway at the Knickerbocker Theatre from October 18, 1920, for 220 performances. A West End production followed in 1921 with Evelyn Laye. Hirsch called it his most successful song, and it later became the theme song of the Burns and Allen radio show. The original performance is credited to Janet Velie and Jack McGowan in 1920, and Art Hickman's Orchestra and John Steel recorded it in August 1920. Later recordings by Paul Whiteman (1932), The King Cole Trio, Johnny Mathis, Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass, and Bob Wilber have kept it in the jazz repertoire. The song is in E-flat.
