Bossa Antigua is a bossa nova jazz composition by the American alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, who is credited as its sole composer. It is the title track and opening track, running 4:43, of his 1965 studio album Bossa Antigua, released on RCA Victor and produced by George Avakian. The album was recorded in 1964 at RCA Studio A in New York City, with Jim Hall on guitar, Eugene Wright on bass and Connie Kay on drums. The title is a wordplay on the Brazilian genre that inspired the album, and the sessions came at the height of US bossa nova popularity, after Stan Getz's Jazz Samba (1962). The album was well received, earning four stars in one major review and three of four in a jazz guide.
