"I'm Old Fashioned" is a 1942 song with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, written for the film You Were Never Lovelier (1942), starring Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth. In the film it was introduced in a song and dance routine by Astaire and Hayworth, with Nan Wynn dubbing Hayworth's singing. The first recording was made in 1942 by Fred Astaire with John Scott Trotter and his orchestra for Decca. Later notable recordings include versions by Chet Baker, John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Dinah Shore, Cassandra Wilson and Julie Andrews.
Jerome Robbins used the song as the centrepiece of his 1983 ballet of the same name for New York City Ballet, as a tribute to Astaire. John Mueller describes the form as theme and variations (ABA'A''), with a sparse construction. It is a standard with English lyrics, part of the jazz and vocal repertoire.
