"San Francisco Holiday" is an instrumental jazz standard by Thelonious Monk, written in 32-bar AABA form. Monk composed it on New Year's Eve 1959. It was first recorded under the working title "Worry Later" on April 29, 1960, at the Blackhawk in San Francisco, by the Thelonious Monk Quartet Plus Two, and appeared that year on the album At The Blackhawk (Riverside). The tune was later issued as "San Francisco Holiday" on Monk in Italy, a live album recorded on April 21, 1961, in Milan and released on Riverside in 1963. The title refers to the Monk family's long stay in San Francisco. Many artists have recorded it since, including Steve Lacy with Don Cherry, Wynton Marsalis and Kenny Barron. It is classified in the bop and hard bop styles.
