"Margie" (also known as "My Little Margie") is a popular song from 1920, with music by Con Conrad and J. Russel Robinson and lyrics by Benny Davis. It has become a jazz standard of the American songbook. The Original Dixieland Jazz Band introduced it that year on a Victor 78 single, where it was coupled with "Singin' the Blues" in a medley, with "Palesteena" on the B side. The earliest version listed is by the Rega Dance Orchestra, recorded in October 1920. Other popular recordings followed in 1920 and 1921 by Gene Rodemich, Ted Lewis and Frank Crumit, and Eddie Cantor's 1921 recording topped the pop charts for five weeks. The song was named after Cantor's five-year-old daughter. It was heard in the films Stella Dallas (1937), Margie (1946), The Eddie Cantor Story (1953) and The Drowning Pool (1975), and in a Max Fleischer Phonofilm cartoon of 1926. In the 1950s it was the unofficial anthem of Preston North End. Later recordings include versions by Benny Goodman, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Erroll Garner and Sidney Bechet.
