"Comes Love" is a 1939 jazz standard with music by Sam H. Stept and lyrics by Lew Brown and Charles Tobias. It was written for the Broadway musical Yokel Boy, starring Phil Silvers and Buddy Ebsen, in which Judy Canova introduced it. The first recording was made by Harry James and His Orchestra, with a vocal chorus by Connie Haines, on 24 May 1939, and was issued as a 78 rpm single in June of that year. Artie Shaw and His Orchestra, with vocals by Helen Forrest, and Larry Clinton also recorded the song that summer. Later recordings include versions by The Andrews Sisters, Rosemary Clooney, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday, Harry James, Diana Krall, Carmen McRae, Joni Mitchell and Sarah Vaughan. The song is usually classed as a swing-style jazz standard with lyrics, and it has been heard in screen works including the season six premiere of The Sopranos and the series Castle.
