"Walk On By" is a song by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Hal David, written in 1963 and recorded by Dionne Warwick at Bell Sound Studios in New York City during the November-December 1963 session that also produced "Anyone Who Had a Heart". Scepter Records released it as a single on April 26, 1964, with "Any Old Time of Day" on the B-side, as the follow-up to her hit "Anyone Who Had a Heart". The single reached number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 1 on the Cash Box R&B chart and number 9 in the UK Singles Chart. It was nominated for a 1965 Grammy for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Warwick also recorded a German version, "Geh vorbei".
Later versions include Isaac Hayes's 1969 funk recording on Hot Buttered Soul, which runs twelve minutes, Gloria Gaynor's 1975 disco version, The Stranglers' 1978 recording and Sybil's 1990 version on PWL Records. Doja Cat sampled Warwick's recording for "Paint the Town Red" in 2023, which reached number one on the Hot 100.
