"Sous le ciel de Paris" is a French chanson with music by Hubert Giraud and lyrics by Jean Dréjac. It was written for the 1951 Julien Duvivier film of the same name, in which Jean Bretonnière sang it, and was published that year by Choudens. Kim Gannon wrote English lyrics under the title "Under Paris Skies".
The first recording was made in February 1951 by Jacques Hélian and his orchestra. Juliette Gréco recorded it in September 1951. Édith Piaf (in 1954 and 1955) and Yves Montand (in 1964) popularised it, and it came to be seen as a symbol of Paris. Later versions include those by Mireille Mathieu, Hildegard Knef, Zaz, Belinda Carlisle, and Plácido Domingo with Josh Groban. The song has also been taken up by jazz musicians, with instrumental versions by Coleman Hawkins, Michel Legrand, Quincy Jones and gypsy jazz groups.
